Processionary Caterpillar Danger

Pine processionary caterpillars are extremely dangerous to dogs. **When:** February to April, descending from pine trees in distinctive lines. **Danger:** Their hairs cause severe allergic reactions. Can cause tongue necrosis in dogs who sniff them. **Symptoms:** Excessive drooling, swollen tongue, vomiting. Emergency situation! **Prevention:** Keep dogs away from pine trees in spring. Watch for caterpillar nests and lines. **Action:** If contact suspected, flush mouth with water and go to emergency vet immediately.
